Whats Google AdSense?

AdSense may be one of the fastest and easiest ways to monetize traffic to your web site whether you have products or services for sale or you simply provide free content to your visitors.

Simply stated, Google AdSense enables website operators to place some code on their site that connects to Google’s ad server content database and pulls keyword-relevant advertising onto the web pages. The webmaster gets paid a percentage of the fee that Google receives from the advertiser every time a visitor clicks on an ad. There is no charge for the webmaster to participate in AdSense. All costs are covered by the advertiser who participates in the AdSense sister program called AdWords.

Google’s sends out digital “robots” which use proprietary algorithms to parse the host web page and analyze the content in an effort to determine what keywords are relevant. It reports its findings back to Google’s ad server which then serves ads matching those keywords. Given that the entire process is automated, the “ad robots” do a pretty good job of getting the advertising content right most of the time.

The History of Google AdSense

Google AdSense has its roots in the old “Google Content-Targeted Advertising” program which they introduced back in March of 2003. Although this program was similar in concept to AdSense, there was no automated way of participating. Each webmaster negotiated a deal directly with Google, and websites that served less than 20 million page views per month were not welcome to participate.

As Google grew, they began to see how much money they were leaving on the table by excluding the smaller sites, which greatly outnumbered the sites serving over 20 million hits that were willing to serve other people’s ads. Their answer to that problem was AdSense which has no minimum traffic requirements and is open to all sites meeting Google’s content and decency requirements.

How much can you make running Google AdSense?

The answer to that question depends upon three factors:

1. How much traffic your site draws
2.How many visitors click on your ads
3.How much those ads pay per generated click

With some ads paying as much as $5 or more, it’s possible that you can generate a serious income with AdSense. There are relatively well documented cases of some people earning as much as $500 per DAY and more. Numbers like that are rare exceptions however. Even so, there is no reason why you can’t earn somewhere around $1,000 per month, or more, once you get the hang of it.

How to get started using Google AdSense

Make a visit to Google’s AdSense Site (https://www.google.com/adsense/) and sign up. Make sure that you read their Acceptable Use Policy and that you follow their content requirements. Google has their own “AdSense Police” who will have no problem booting you out of the program if you fail to walk the line.

Using Google AdSense on your site is like collecting free money. There’s no reason not to do it and potentially thousands of dollars worth of reasons to do it.

Adsense & Adwords: A Beginners Guide

By Mark Thompson

First a brief glossary of terms:

Adwords: The program advertisers use to make their adverts.

Adsense: The program Website owners use to display the adverts

CTR: Click Through Rate (the number of page impressions/the number of clicks on a advert)

The most effective methods of advertising on the internet are Google’s Adwords program and Overture which is now officially called Yahoo Search Marketing but still universally known as Overture. This method of advertising is called Pay per Click or PPC. The concept is incredibly simple; Google and Yahoo provide listings on a Per bid basis. You bid a certain amount of money for your specific keywords when someone types in a keyword and you have the highest bid then your advert shows up. On Google the adverts show up in the Adwords column on the right hand side of the page whilst Yahoo shows them as sponsored links at the top of the page. If someone then clicks on your advert, they arrive at your web site and you are charged the amount you bid. So, for example if you bid $.10 per click on ‘widgets’, and that’s the highest bid, you’ll show up at the top if It’s the second highest bid you’ll show up second etc. If 100 people click on your advert, then the search engine or PPC service will charge you $10.00.

Using Adwords to your Advantage

So now that you know how Adwords work you can use this to your advantage when building websites. If you build a site about a specific subject you can then use specific keywords to attract adverts. The best way to ascertain which keywords to use are by signing up for an Adwords account you will then have access to Google’s Adwords tools which will show you which keywords are highest paying for a particular subject. In addition it will suggest alternative keywords.

At this point it is probably wise to point out it is against Google’s Terms of Service to specifically create a page just to target Adsense, Obviously if the site has lots of unique content then you are entitles to tweak the keywords to maximize your revenue.

Making Adsense pay

There is very little point adding Adsense to a page with no traffic. It is best to build your site and spend a couple of months driving traffic to the site, once you have a regular amount of people being driven to your site by the search engines then it is time to add Adsense. It is not just a case of putting Adsense on your site and waiting for the money to roll in. You should place the adverts carefully to maximize exposure whilst not impacting on the browsing experience of your viewers. Leave the Ads in position for a week or 2 and monitor the performance known as CTR. The change the position of the ads and the color and monitor this for any improvements. Publishers have been known to improve their CTR by up to 4 times by employing small changes. So time spent tweaking Adsense is time well spent.

7 Steps Of Mega Adsense Earners

By Andrew Daum

The Google AdSense program is like finding money in the street.

Kids in High School are making thousands of dollars a month with Adsense… Housewives, Retiree’s, Mom and Pop’s who’ve never made a dime on the Internet have created full time incomes by simply placing AdSense Ads on their web site or blog.

Then you have the “Super AdSense” earners. We have all heard of them… the Elite few who are on track to make half a million dollars a year or more promoting AdSense sites.

Do not be mistaken though… these people are not building like your Mom and Pop’s do. They have systems in place that create sites for them… people who build sites for them… they have outsourced and automated many of the tedious tasks such as posting to blogs and searching for keywords.

While most people cannot emulate everything these Super AdSense earners do… many of them you can.

Here are 7 Required Steps you can implement today to copy their success.

1) Starting today… treat your AdSense business like it is a REAL business and track what you do.

Begin tracking what you are doing that works… as well as what you are doing that does not work. This will keep you from making the same mistakes over and over, and you can repeat the steps that have worked in the past. As simple as this step seems… most people do not know the reason(s) to their success or failure.

2) Utilize the latest tools and software available.

The Super AdSense earners are not any smarter than your average person. I know many people think they are… but for the most part, they are regular non techie people.

They are smarter in one respect though… they use the latest tools available to them to automate most of the tasks involved with researching and creating sites. They use the latest keyword, site creation and search engine optimization tools available. The tools they use are their secret weapons.

3) Quit chasing the Mega Dollar keywords.

You cannot compete with the search engine experts who create sites for the $80 payout keywords. You may get lucky every now and then… but in the long run, you are better off building sites for the low to mid range payout keywords. The competition is less, and your chance of success is much higher over the long term.

4) Choose broad niches and break it down.

Choose a broad subject as your main theme (lets use computers for an example). From there… break it down into as many sub niches as possible.

Using Computers as the example… you could build sub niches/sites like laptop computers, computer hard drives, computer keyboards, etc, etc. You could literally build hundreds of sites around one major theme and stay totally focused. Once you have exhausted every possible sub niche of that major theme… choose another main theme and repeat the process.

5) KISS

Keep your sites easy to navigate and forget the fancy graphics that distract your visitors attention. Unless you are just building AdSense sites for the fun of it and to impress your friends… the purpose of having the site is to have people click on one of the ads, right? Then keep the site layout simple… dump the scrolling banners, dancing chickens and colored scroll bars… they are distractions.

6) What is the purpose of your web site?

Your web site cannot be everything to everybody. If you have a full fledged ecommerce site, with products for sale… links to other products, it is not a good site for AdSense. If the primary focus of the site is to sell products… let it do that.

Do not distract or confuse your visitor with to many options or choices. The best AdSense sites are AdSense only content sites that sell nothing. They are sites that “Tell”… not “Sell.”

7) Be consistent.

This is not one of those deals where you build one site and you are done. Refer back to Step #4. You must continuously build in order to be successful.

Think of it as planting a crop that you will harvest in a month or two, and the sites you build are seeds. Once the seeds have grown and matured… you will reap the harvest. The more seeds you plant… the larger the harvest.

To sum it up… utilize the tools available to automate as much of the process of building sites - doing research and building keyword lists as you can. This alone will help keep you organized and on track. Be consistent in building… treat it like the business it is and you will reap the rewards of your harvest.

By Alli Ross

There are many adsense tips floating around the internet. Here are some adsense tricks that can drastically increase your CTR and your profits.

Lots of people say to make your ads blend in. However, some people are having a lot of success by making their links stand out. The most effective style seems to be having your links blue, while your other links are a less-noticeable color. A good example can be seen at www.lockergnome.com

- Place images directly above your ads. This simple technique has been known to increase CTR by 400%. To keep the images fresh some people randomize related images on their site using PHP code. You can see an example of these images at http://www.how-to-make-money-online.info/

- Google has cited the 336×280 large rectangle as the most effective ad size.

- Place ads where your visitors will likely be focused.

Check out this heat map by Google - http://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/static.py?page=tips.html

- Weave your articles into your content. This is shown at lockergnome.com

- Place link units in the top left-hand corner. This part of the website has shown to be clicked on more than any other part of the page. You can see an example at lockergnome.com. (Look at the links at the top, towards the left in blue.)

- Take advantage of the “alternate URL” feature to avoid Public Service Ads that seep money away from your website.

- One of the best things you can do is add additional pages to your site. A web site with thousands of pages and tons of content often does very well in the search engines. You can get free content from article directories. You could also use public domain content, which is a favorite tactic of John Reese. Or, you could use content in the creative commons. This is getting easier than ever now that Yahoo and others have created a search engine specifically for content in the creative commons.

Succeeding with adsense is largely determined by the amount of traffic to your site. However, there are many adsense tricks that you can employ to get the most possible out of your site. Often times, this means doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling your earnings. The key is to find out what works for your web site. Testing and tracking is the key to increased revenue!

By Julie Francis

Niche blogging is not new, but due to the improvement of free blogging platforms it is the new marketing strategy for making easy money. Niche blogging with Adsense involves blog writing while publishing advertising such as Adsense for a commission.

Niche blogging can be done on its own to market a product or it can be used as a news service for a main site. You can use niche blogging to display your writing skills or other artistic skills or you can use it as an internal linking resource using its many menus to connect to related resources.

There Are Two Main Reasons to Niche.

Finding market segments that are small but potentially profitable is one and to encourage a profitable quantity of sales, this marketing strategy relies on increasing the loyalty of customers so that their needs will be met or surpassed. Providing good free information, providing a newsletter, a forum perhaps, these things encourage people to return to your site for more information.

Getting well indexed in order to garner the free traffic from search engines is the second reason. When you start playing darts you are aiming for the board and happy to hit it. When you play well you are aiming for a particular score on the board which is much smaller. Niche your articles within a specific niche area that includes your main topic, and your sub topic and improve the quantity of these keywords occurrence.

When you have a blog with some great content on it adding Adsense to your niche blog makes lots of sense. It is easy to sign up and implement this monetizing feature and it will give your reader leads to other related resources they may well be interested in. Niche blogging with Adsense can offset the costs of hosting your blog and if you get a high readership will make you a lot of money for some niche topics.

There Are Two Main Reasons to Blog.

The user friendly interface of a blog makes it simple to add content regularly. Its easy to add snippets of information or long articles, its easy to display advertising and give links to other sites. The ease of use allows you to keep updating the content which keeps your site fresh. The conversational style of a blog lets you connect with customers at a personal level and interact with them using the comments feature.

The second reason to blog is the built in pinging function and we have to keep those spiders crawling over our pages if we want our index result to stay in the new releases section. Set up correctly you can save a lot of promotional time by adding ping sites to the ping function of your blog platform. Some platforms like B2Evolution already have this functional after installation. Some you need to add the sites to the correct page.

It is not essential to niche your blog if your blog is linked to a main site that is already niched in some way. In these circumstances you can add content as you choose because your main traffic will come through your announcements of posts to an email list or a link on your main site.

If your blog stands alone as the sole site for your content then it is essential to use niche blogging strategies to gain traffic. Niche research your topic, use seo marketing techniques to optimize both blog and posts and go hunting for external links. Stay on topic and if you are tempted to stray, start a new blog to do so. Add Adsense for monetization to your niche blog and you have a stream of income as well. Blogging makes sense but niche blogging with Adsense makes more cents.

By Emily

These days, the Internet has been much more of a two way street, used be people to express themselves as much as it is to find information. In the new Web 2.0 era, the user has become the publisher, and the source of information like never before. The amount of user generated content that is being published onto the Internet is growing at a phenomenal amount, and the chances are that you are contributing in some way.

Whether you keep an online diary or blog, take time out to edit articles on Wikipedia or simply contribute to one of the millions of forums online, you are making a contribution to the amount of information on the web, and you should be able to take advantage of this, and get paid.

The search engine Google offers a simple way for all content producers to make money online from their content through a program called AdSense. When you sign up for AdSense, you simply add a piece of code to any web pages that you author, and then Google display contextual advertising on the page, and you get paid every time someone clicks on one of the adverts.

One of the best things about the Google AdSense network is that because the ads are produces that match the content on the website, therefore users find them much less intrusive, and indeed useful than the kind of banner advertisements that dominated websites in the past.

Although you might not make a fortune from your online endeavors through AdSense, many people do actually make a living from monetizing the work that they do online, earning a good salary from their blog or website.

By Seth Willis Jr.

One element every Adsense user should put on all their web sites is a newsletter form in order to collect email addresses.

Why? Because, if you do it correctly, setting up a newsletter can be a goldmine!

Let me start by listing the benefits of creating a newsletter:

Benefit 1: Your sites don’t look like they were “Made for Adsense”

Now that Adsense has become very popular, more and more people are creating web sites solely for the purpose of making money with Adsense.

This is creating a backlash with people who see this as a negative thing. Plus, web sites that look like they were obviously made for Adsense are against the TOS. So you could actually get a warning from Google for this.

Adding special features to your Adsense sites make them more than just “Adsense sites”.

Benefit 2: Another income stream

Having a newsletter allows you another way to make money with your web sites.

With a newsletter you can…

Promote affiliate programs… or your own products.

Sell advertising space to other web sites owners.

Advertise your other Adsense sites.

This is great because if your web site stops making money with Adsense, it can still make money from the newsletter!

Benefit 3: More repeat traffic for your web site

You should advertise your web site every time you send out your newsletter to your subscribers.

When you do this, it reminds them of your web site and many of them will return again and again. Every time they visit, there is a chance that they will click your Adsense ads!

Okay, Now that you know WHY you should have a newsletter, HOW do you start one?

Contrary to what most people think, creating a newsletter is actually very simple. There are two main ways to get started:

Using a third party service

There are quite a few companies that specialize in newsletter delivery. The two main companies are Aweber and GetResponse.

With both of these services, your subscriber list is hosted on their servers. When someone wants to unsubscribe from your list, they just click a link in your newsletter and they are taken off automatically.

When you want to send an email to your list, all you have to do is upload your content to the third party company and they send the emails from their servers.

Using your own servers

With this option you will probably need to install a script on your own server. There are scripts that will do everything that the third party services do. The only difference is, the emails are sent through your servers.

If you don’t want to install a script, another option is to manually keep track of subscribers and manually remove them when they want to unsubscribe. This option is only viable when you only have a few people on your list but it will quickly become too difficult as your list grows.

We recommend using a third-party company when you first start. The cost is usually only about $20/month.

Providing content for your newsletter

Another misconception that people have is that you will need to write all the content for your newsletters. This isn’t true!

The first way you can get content for your newsletters is by purchasing it.

You can find many freelance writers at eLance.com. All you have to do is post your project, wait for bids, and pick a writer. It typically costs about $5-20 per article.

We are currently working on an in-depth lesson on this subject… so look for that in the near future.

Another way to get FREE content for your newsletter is by reprinting articles that other people have written. You can find tons of targeted articles at web sites like ArticleCity.com, EzineArticles.com, GoArticles.com, IdeaMarketers.com, and many more!

You can also search for free articles on Google by typing “KEYWORD articles reprint” (replace KEYWORD with your actual of course)

Archiving Your newsletter

Every time you send out your newsletter, you NEED to archive them on your web site. Every issue should have its own HTML page.

The reasons why you need to archive every issue…

It’s more content for your web site. Each issue of your newsletter is full of keyword rich content. Search engines eat, breathe, and love content. Every page that you get indexed into the search engines is another opportunity for more traffic (and income!)

It’s another feature of your site. Having a newsletter archive is another feature that makes your site more than “just another Adsense site”. As we discussed earlier, any feature that you can add to your site that makes it different than all the other cookie cutter Adsense sites is a very good thing.

It gives people a reason to return. Having repeat visitors is great thing because it’s free traffic that has a good chance of converting to clicks. People will bookmark your article archive page and some will even recommend your site to their friends!

Some people will reprint your articles. Every time someone reprints your articles on their web site you will get a link pointing back to your web site. This helps boost your link popularity, which in turn helps your site rank better in the search engines.

It gives people a preview of your newsletter. You’ll get more people to sign up for your newsletter if you have an archive because it gives your visitors a taste of what they will receive when they sign up.

Article writers will submit their articles to you. When article writers see that you archive every issue of your newsletter, they will be more willing to send their articles to you for free. Why? Because they know that their articles (and the links to their sites in their articles) will be found by the search engines.

Hopefully you see why it’s so important to have a newsletter on your Adsense sites.

Don’t hesitate to ask for help in the forum if you have any problems setting up your newsletter!

What’s Possible With Adsense?

This may sound cliché, but the possibilities are endless with Adsense.

How much money do you want to make? I bet you can do it with the Google Adsense program!

Want to make six figures a year? You can!

Lets say your goal is to make $100,000 per year with just money from Adsense. That’s about $8,333 per month. Break it down even further and it’s roughly $278 per day.

$278 per day with JUST Adsense is easier than you think!

In our experience, each site we create makes an average of $40 per day. But we’ve heard the average person makes about $20/day with their Adsense sites… so lets use that as an example.

If you can create web sites that make you $20/day, you would only need 14 of them in order to reach your six-figure goal.

And with the tools and information you get from Adsense School, you could easily make more than $20/day for each adsense site you create! It’s all a numbers game!

Can you quit your job?

Technically, yes, you can quit your job. It’s fairly easy to make enough money to live off of. The real question is SHOULD you quit your job? That’s something you have to decide for yourself.

Does your current job offer health insurance? Google Adsense doesn’t.

Does your place of employment have a union? Not Adsense.

Google doesn’t take money out of your check for taxes either… so you’ll be completely responsible for keeping track of that too.

You also need to be good at budgeting your money. You only get an Adsense check once a month. If you blow all that money in the first week, you’re in trouble.

And you might want to wait a few months before you tell your boss how much you hate him or her. It’s a good idea to save up as much money as you can before you quit your day job.

Having 3-6 months or more of money saved up in the bank is a good idea incase the Google Adsense Program goes belly-up. Google doesn’t offer a severance package either.

We hope this lesson got you excited about the possibilities with Adsense. We also hope this lesson prepared you for the realities of living off money made solely from Google Adsense, in case you ever decide to go that route.

Remember, the only thing stopping you from reaching your goals is you. We will give you all the tools and information you need. We’re also available to answer any questions you have along the way. But the one thing we can’t do is force you to put your plans into action… that’s up to you!

Making The Most Of Your Adsense Potential

By Seth Willis Jr.

Google’s Adsense program has the potential to make a significant contribution to your income. However, in order for you to make the most of what Google Adsense has to offer, you have to take the time to understand how to make it work for you. It takes more than the mere pasting of code to make the money flow your way.

There are many sources of tips and advice on how to increase earning from Adsense, some providing legitimate, smart ideas and others offering ways of cheating or beating the system, often with the lure of fast and easy, work free tricks and tips. As with many things in life that are fast and easy, often – in the end – trying to avoid legitimate means of increasing your Adsense earnings in favor of methods that are advertised as being quick money or that attempt to circumvent or outright defy the terms of service will only bring you problems in the end. And, those problems are likely to reduce or even eliminate your ability to make money with Adsense.

One of the most important factors, one you’ll see come up time and time again in almost any discussion of how to make the most of your Adsense potential, is the quality of the content on a site. Standards have changed, and content that is poorly written, dull, and repetitive – not human friendly – posted primarily to attract search engines via key word usage is no longer acceptable or even useful. In fact, you can be penalized for spam and may find that the search engines simply ignore you. This is the case especially with duplicate content.

Quality content is so important because presumably your visitors are at your site because they have an interest in its topic of the search terms that brought them there. The specific Adsense ads that appear on your site are a result of the effort to match those ads to the content, making it more likely that visitors will click through. The better content you have, the closer match the Adsense ads will be to your site and the interests of your visitors.

When you have quality content, then you are more likely to have positive results from legitimate means of driving traffic to your site, as visitors won’t feel shortchanged or tricked when they arrive, particularly if you participate in forums and discussions with the intent to increase traffic and links. Creating useful and informative content can even result in repeat visits and regular readers. That is one of the reasons it is important to regularly feature fresh content.

While the standard advice for success with Adsense is to pay more attention to your site than to working Adsense, as that will help to ensure that your site is the best that it can be, thus attractive to both humans and search engines, it is possible to do both. Some enjoy significant financial benefit by building smart and informative sites around keywords that typically garner higher advertising rates and, thus, a higher click through rate.

Using a keyword generation program can help you to select the best keywords to build your content around, whether you are looking for ideas to improve the effectiveness of your current site or are hoping to create a site that will help you to draw the higher paying ads. There are many tools of this nature available on the Internet, many are free and some are not.

Certainly quality content and legitimately increased traffic are the leading ways of helping you to maximize your Adsense earning potential. However, there are also a variety of other means that you may find helpful, once you’re sure that your content is all that it should be. For example, consider the appearance and position of your ads in conjunction with the overall look and styles of your site.

You can choose your Adsense colors to match your site colors, so that the over all look is smooth and professional looking. You may want to give some thought to your positioning. If your site features interesting content, then readers may be less likely to click an ad positioned in a location that will escape notice while focused on reading or one that will require them to leave off reading to click. Perhaps relevant ads at the end of a given article or content piece would be more effective.

You may also want to consider making sure that your title, page name and heading are the same, and make use of primary keywords. Your keywords themselves should be used at least 3 times per one hundred words of text, but no more than 8 times. Too much keyword repetition, and your content will sound ‘spammy’, awkward, and unnatural. Add fresh content frequently and regularly, and make sure that your content is actually informative, offering the reader facts and knowledge that he may not have had before visiting your site, rather then a mere formality or a vehicle for the keywords that you hope will attract the types of Adsense ads you want.

Using those methods will help you to make the most of your Adsense potential, helping you to move closer to achieving your financial goals. These are legitimate methods that will serve you well over the long-term, something that cannot be said about means that attempt to get around the terms of service or ignore them altogether. When you invest your thought, time and effort into Adsense, the returns can make a real difference in your financial bottom line.

By Connie Limon

Webmasters looking for ways to earn extra money from their sites can add Google ads. All you need to is sign up for a Google Adsense account and add a simple code on your site pages. Google Adsense will then run ads on your site that is relevant to your content.

It is possible for webmasters to earn a living from Adsense. It may seem difficult, but it is not impossible.

If you are interested in making Google Adsense your only source of income you do will need to do more than just adding the code to your site. There is experimenting with placements, formats and choice of keywords. Placing the code will earn a webmaster a few extra dollars, but earning a living will require more work on the part of the webmaster.

If you are building sites especially to earn the Google Adsense income you really should build your pages around a specific topic or keyword that is relevant to your site content. This helps Adsense ads to display appropriately on your pages to ensure visitors who want to know more about your topic will more likely end up clicking on the Adsense ad.

Placement of ads can be important. Studies consistently show a visitor often first look to the top left of a website when they first arrive. This could be one of the most important places to place your Google ads. Inside the Google blog is a wealth of information about ad placement and other topics concerning how best to use the Google Adsense Program.

You should place your Google ad code on pages of high traffic, which means you, will need to know which of your website pages receives the most traffic. You can get a page by page detail report of your visitor activity by looking at logs inside your Google account.

It is helpful to blend your Adsense ads into your web pages so that they appear to be part of your content. Inside your Google account you will find a variety of palettes which allow you to change font color, border color and backgrounds. The most important thing here is blending the ads in with the colors and content of your site pages. Use the preview tool provided inside your Adsense account to get an idea of what the ad will look like on your site.

You will find a wealth of helpful information about optimizing your site’s pages inside the Google blog.

Review the following tips to improve your Adsense earnings:

• Try using the large rectangle (336 X 280) wherever you can on your web pages. Some studies show this format has the tendency to result in a higher click through rate. The ads look like normal web links. People seem to be use to clicking on normal web links and will usually click these types of links. They may or may not know they are clicking on “your” Adsense.

• Choose your colors to match the colors in your website

• Keep Adsense ads at least on top of your pages, and not at the main bottom

• A time saver for you when building your pages is to automate the Adsense code so it shows up on every page automatically
